Beets Blu Heart Rate Monitor and Pager Tag Review

Category: Fitness     Product Reviews

When it comes to working out one thing you always want to be sure of is making sure that what you are doing is working and helping you to reach the goals you have set for yourself. Fitness trackers and monitors have become extremely popular in the last few years and continue to trend upward – especially as people become more comfortable with electronics and smart phones to monitor their health. Recently I was contacted by a company called Beets Blu who create a variety of electronics like scales, pager tags and heart rate monitors.

_MG_3453Since many of you who read my blog are also looking for ways to ensure you are doing everything right to reach your personal fitness goals, I thought this would be a good item to test and share my thoughts with you. In full disclosure I did receive both products free of charge in return for an open and honest review. The opinions are my own and after a week of testing both out my feedback is included below.

The Beets Blu Pager Tag

The Beets Blu Pager Tag retails at $25.00 and is a small, plastic key chain that you attach to your personal items you want to keep track of in case they get lost or stolen. Every 2 seconds, someone loses a cellphone or their car keys – this nifty little device can help to solve that problem. I attached this to my key ring for my car/house keys then simply downloaded the complimentary app from the iTunes store for my iPhone. There are so many uses for the tag, just place it on anything you want to make sure you never, ever lose!

PagerTag is a cool and simple device that can:

  • Keep track of your valuables (keys, wallets, suitcase, laptop bag, backpack – whatever is tagged with PagerTag)
  • Detect the proximity of lost or forgotten items wirelessly
  • Alert you when your item shifts outside of a connection range (about 15 feet/5 meters)
  • Send sounds and enable an LED light to alert you
  • Can be used as Android Trusted Device for automatic screen unlock (Android 5.0 or later required)
  • If you can’t find your keys in a rush or you can’t find them in your bag
  • If you left your wallet or purse behind or misplaced it
  • If you attach PagerTag to your travel bag, your phone will notify you when it is nearby at the baggage claim area
  • If your tagged pet is outside of a set range
  • If your item has being stolen

Beets Blu Heart Rate Monitor

The Beets Blu Heart Rate Monitor costs around $40.00 online and comes with the sensor piece and the strap. The strap is adjustable from S-XL and fit me perfectly without any adjusting. I am very familiar with some other strap heart rate monitors but many never fit me tightly enough so that was a nice surprise. There is no other equipment needed other than downloading the app from the iTunes store to track your heart rate and efficiency during your workouts. You don’t need any adapter whatsoever!
You will only need a compatible smartphone. The data is directly transmitted through Bluetooth Smart (Bluetooth v4.0) wireless technology, and devices supporting the feature can immediately connect to the heart rate monitor after some small changes in their settings.

Why should you use a heart rate monitor?

Control of your heart rate is very important for your training, as it helps you to achieve your desired results. Depending on the goal of your workout, you can:

  • Strengthen your cardiovascular system
  • Increase your stamina
  • Burn fat
  • Avoid your heart beating too fast

This is especially important for those over 50 years of age or for those recuperating.
The results of your training depend on your heart rate zone. This has a lower and upper limit. If your heart rate is in the target zone, you will achieve the expected results from your training.

The heart rate monitor is very easy to wear and it stays in place just fine as I do cardio or weight training. For females just attach it around your rib cage with the sensor right under your sports bra in the middle. It’s important that as you work out to check the app to ensure that the information is being transmitted wirelessly and logging your activity and heart rate. This did not cause any irritation or discomfort while working out. Now, I have always been a Polar Watch user, but it was nice to use this and not have to use any other equipment or worry about the watch. Heart rate monitoring for me is very important to make sure I am in my optimal heart rate/fat burning zone – which for me is around 155-170.
