RIP Robin Williams - movie quotes and remembering his lifeCategory: DIY & Tips
It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post about the sudden passing and apparent suicide of the comedic legend Robin Williams. As an 80’s baby I grew up with some of his most famous movies and always looked at him as a fatherly figure; someone I would love to spend an afternoon with over a glass of vino and have a great conversation about life. His movies and spirit allowed me to escape my own life or times in childhood by going to a place of fantasy. He seemed to the outside world to be so happy and joyful, but the sad truth about depression is that you never really know how sad someone can be on the inside. Robin spent his life making others laugh; laugh so hard sometimes you peed your pants. He made you feel like there was nothing in the world you couldn’t do or overcome. If you were to ask me what a gentle soul was, I’d have to point to his face and say “that’s it, right there.” You couldn’t help but love Robin Williams, but at the same time you couldn’t help but wonder if someone who could be so many people, so many characters…was he really just trying to escape his own mind and demons. It breaks my heart to think that people suffer in silence in pain, depression and sadness. I will miss seeing his new films and shows, I will miss knowing that someone like him left this world far too early and by his own choice. I wish he would have known just how many people he has touched – not just because he was funny, witty, talented…but because he was just a damn good human being. Someone that I am sure many of us would love to have met, even for a cup of coffee.
I send my thoughts and prayers out to his wife, children, family and closest friends. I hope that someday it will become easier for people to just be happy and not suffer in silence. We all fall victim to feeling down, sad or upset – but don’t ever let it get so bad you can’t ask for help. Whether it is from a friend, a stranger or your faith. Rest in peace Robin, you will now be free of any hurt and you have left a mark on us all.
Please, don’t worry so much. Because in the end, none of us have very long on this Earth. Life is fleeting. And if you’re ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day… make a wish and think of me. Make your life spectacular.

You’ll have bad times, but it’ll always wake you up to the good stuff you weren’t paying attention to.
– Good Will Hunting, 1997
We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
– Dead Poets Society, 1989
I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone.
