The best natural shampoo for oily hair and scalp

Category: DIY & Tips     Product Reviews

One of my biggest hair concerns is that end-of-the-day oily roots and hair. You know what I mean, when your hair just feels yucky due to either touching it too often or it laying on your face and absorbing oil from your skin. My hair can only go about two, maybe stretch it to three, days before I want to literally rip it out of my head. By day three it is usually up in a ponytail or messy bun because it just feels flat, gross and nasty after a few days. While my hair is dry at the ends due to hair styling and color treating, the scalp and roots for me always get greasy. Finding a shampoo and conditioner has always been a challenge, but I wanted to share this brand with you since I buy it now every time it runs out: Silk 18 Conditioner and Degrease Shampoo by Maple Holistics.

I personally have oily skin so it’s no surprise that my hair will get oily as well, but it doesn’t mean it is something I will tolerate. I am always trying out new hair care products and have made the switch to natural hair care products. I stopped using any sulfate hair products but then I went even further and stopped buying anything that wasn’t organic or used all natural ingredients. Over the year I have tried out a ton of hair care products to combat oily scalp, greasy hair and I have had my fair share of good items that I have tried but I would up repurchasing one set of shampoo and conditioner multiple times that I truly love. If you have this same hair concern, you may find that the Maple Holistics hair care products might work for you.

Degrease Shampoo – For oily, greasy hair and itchy scalp. While my hair is not itchy it does get oily and greasy. It’s a pain point of mine especially since I don’t have hair that can air dry naturally and be presentable. It has a mind of its own so I have to either blow dry it out nicely or let it air dry and then curl it with a styling tool. If you work out daily this is always a challenge; you get sweaty, you have to wash your hair, over washing it makes it dry and when it is dry your scalp will produce oil to combat that. It’s a cycle that just doesn’t stop so for me I needed a shampoo that would remove the dirt and oil, not leave my hair dry and would also moisturize without weighing it down. This shampoo did all those things and it is natural, made with good-for-you ingredients to cleanse and stimulate cell renewal. It balances the sebum secretion levels and increases circulation to the scalp. It is a clear colored liquid and even though it is a homeopathic product, which tends to not lather up that well, this one does. I only need to shampoo once and I can feel the grease and gunk coming off my hair without leaving it feeling like a brillo pad.

Lemon: Lemon is full of many nutrients, such as citric acid, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, pectin, and flavonoids. It gently cleans greasy/oily hair, removing the excess oil without stripping away too much of the natural oil that the hair needs to keep the ends strong and healthy. This addition is also rich in anti-bacterial properties and provides a crisp and refreshing aroma.

Silk 18 Conditioner – this conditioner is my absolute favorite! Not only because it is natural, has amazing ingredients and doesn’t feel heavy on my hair, but the smell is amazing. If you have ever traveled to Las Vegas, the Aria Hotel has a scent that is to die for. It is a combination of I think lavender and vanilla and when I used this conditioner the first time it was the first thing that came to mind. I have never had a hair care product smell this good! I use only a thin layer on my hands and work it just into the middle and ends of my hair, avoiding the scalp. You want to avoid putting conditioner on your scalp which just makes your hair flat and more oil prone.

Silk Amino Acids: Eighteen naturally-derived (literally extracted during the silkworms process of creating silk) silk amino acids prompts an assortment of hair and scalp benefits. Some of these benefits include strengthened hair fibers and natural restoration for flawless hair health. In addition, the high molecular weight of the silk amino acids results in the formation of a substantive film to increase scalp permeability. Includes L-Alanine, Glycine, L-Serine, L-Valine, L-Threonine, and more.
